The Netrunner, no role in Cyberpunk Red has more of a love/hate relationship with the fan base. Nothing is “wrong” with having them, in fact they are essential to the techno dystopia that is Cyberpunk as a genre. The mechanics (and lore), however, have been problematic for some. I will attempt to provide some clarification…

Of all the roles in Cyberpunk Red, Medtech is the one that is brand new to the game. In earlier editions they were a sometimes mentioned subset of tech, but nothing about the role was set in concrete. The core of the role, however, is as old as tabletop roleplaying, but with a slight twist.…

The Cyberpunk Red (and 2020 version) Media Role is a strange one. While it has a spot within the genre, it takes an unusual place as a character archetype. It is also a role where many players new to the game stare at with confusion, wondering what they can do with it. My position is…

With the publication of Cyberpunk Red there were some fundamental changes from previous editions. There is, of course, the advancement of the timeline, the addition of lore and the refinement of rules. This is to be expected in a new edition. This included all of the character roles as well. One that changed the most…

A game like Cyberpunk Red doesn’t really work without the Fixer. The Cyberpunk 2077 video game treats them as quest giving hubs, as does the Edgerunners anime to some extent. For the ttrpg, however, they are the grease that lubricates the gears of the underground economy. I consider them to be one of the “role-play…

Cyberpunk Red – Exec Role Thoughts

The Exec is a Role in the Cyberpunk Red TTRPG that exemplifies the edgy, frequently dangerous nature of doing (il)legitimate business in the dystopian capitalist future. The Exec provides a bridge between being legitimate and illegitimate and the changes that were introduced in CP Red from the original Cyberpunk 2020 rule set have revitalized and…

I keep an eye on the various subreddits and discord channels of my favorite games. A theme I see often is players looking for games, because they can’t find one much less a playgroup that fits into their schedule. There just aren’t enough good game runners to go around. The term “Forever GM” gets thrown…

A Game Master (GM, DM, Referee, Storyteller, Narrator, Handler, “some other words that make sense”) has a duty to their players which is discussed elsewhere. There is content everywhere about how to create a setting, a story, a way to engage the player(s) with the narrative and immerse them into the world of the game.…
